beatmania IIDX (alternately beatmaniaIIDX or just IIDX, pronounced "two dee-ecks" or "two deluxe") is an ongoing series of rhythm video games introduced by Konami in 1999. It is the direct sequel to the beatmania game series, and part of the Bemani line of music games.

[edit] Gameplay

IIDX is played with seven keys and a turntable. Unlike beatmania, the position of the turntable is dependent on the player; facing the screen, the first player's turntable is on the left and the second player's turntable is to his right. Pressing keys and spinning the turntable in tune with notes falling down the screen increases the player's Groove Gauge. Missing notes will decrease the gauge. At the start of a song, the Groove Gauge is set at 22% in normal play (in other modes, it could be set differently). To pass the song, the player must have increased the Groove Gauge to at least 80%. The player will not fail if the gauge is dropped to its minimum at any time in the song (unless he is playing a challenge mode); the only way to lose is to have failed to increase the Groove Gauge to 80% or higher by the end of the song. Up to 6th Style, it was possible to continue after failing. In 7th Style and all subsequent games, failing a song at any point in the game results in a Game Over.
